Smoking Prevalence

In 2010, smoking prevalence in New Brunswick was 19.3%, above the national average of 16.7%.

Figure 2.21 shows smoking prevalence, overall and by sex, in New Brunswick from 1999-2010. During this time, although prevalence fluctuated, it decreased overall. Prevalence was greater among males than females in all years, although there was some variation from year to year in the magnitude of this difference.

Figure 2.22 shows smoking prevalence by age group in New Brunswick, from 1999-2010. During this time period, smoking prevalence decreased in all age groups; the largest decrease was among those aged 15-19, whose smoking rate nearly halved.
